TLT has appointed corporate heavyweight and energy and infrastructure specialist Patrick Somers as a partner in London, supporting its growth ambitions in the capital.
The appointment continues the rapid growth of TLT's UK-wide corporate team in the last year, including the appointment of Damien Bechelli and Kirsty Smith from DWF in Glasgow.
Somers will also support TLT's clean energy sector team, bringing together specialists from across the full spectrum of TLT's services across the UK including corporate transactions, commercial, real estate, banking and finance, regulatory, disputes and employment.
He has earned a reputation as one of the UK's leading corporate partners over the last 30 years, having practised at several top international law firms including DLA Piper, BCLP and Squire Patton Boggs.
He also brings valuable in-house experience from his role as GC of pre-National Grid entities Transco plc and Lattice Group plc, following hot on the heels of TLT's appointment of Tom Cowling, former GC at Ecotricity in May 2019.
Somers is an expert in M&A including high-value, complex deals and international transactions (US and mainland Europe) as well as private equity, corporate governance and regulatory.
Andrew Lyon, partner and location head for TLT in London, says: "We are investing heavily in growing and expanding our London offering, the result being that we're able to attract leading lawyers like Patrick to be a part of that journey.
"We've seen recent successful growth in investigations, financial services regulation, litigation, payments and digital. We have clear plans in place to continue to build a full service City practice, including our transactional offering in banking, corporate and real estate and supporting our core sectors."
John Wood, partner and head of corporate at TLT, says: "Patrick is an exceptional lawyer and highly regarded by his peers and clients. We are delighted to have him join the team and help support our national growth as we act on an ever increasing volume of complex transactional matters for high-growth businesses and their investors. We are continuing to act on a high number of inward investment deals into the UK and this is growing in sectors like clean energy, where the UK is seen as a leader in innovation and new technologies."
Patrick Somers, partner at TLT, says: "TLT is clearly making huge strides in London, building on its already strong reputation and I was excited to be part of that as well as the continued growth of its UK-wide corporate team. The team has been recognised for numerous awards and listed for its exceptional lawyers and it feels like an environment that's genuinely focused on pushing the boundaries and coming up with new ideas to support its clients.
"I am looking forward to working with John, Andy and the team to bring my experience to TLT's clients and help to progress its ambitious growth plans in the capital and beyond."
