Clapham Manor Primary School has won £500 in an inter-school competition to design their very own Shaun the Sheep mini-sculpture.
The competition was run by UK law firm TLT as part of its support of the ‘Shaun in the City’ charity art trail from Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Charity.
The winning design, decorated by nine students in Clapham Manor Primary School’s art club was inspired by the school’s eco ethos. Design elements from each of the student’s designs were combined to create ‘Eco Shaun’, using natural paints made from soil.
Vivi Cuevas, artist and designer of the 'The Guardian’ Shaun in the City sculpture sponsored by TLT, commented that this was an ‘outstanding design and concept’. As competition judge she was impressed by the use of ‘textures and colours’ and praised the ‘green ecological values’.
The prize money will be put towards developing the school’s art programme, whether that is an art gallery trip, buying specialist art materials or contributing towards a new Art Lab.
Five schools - Ronald Ross Primary School (Wandsworth), John Scurr Primary School (Tower Hamlets), Dunraven Primary School (Lambeth), Clapham Manor Primary School (Lambeth) and Bromley Road School (Bromley) - took part in the competition to design their own Shaun in the City mini-sculpture, which they all get to keep.
The Shaun in the City charity art trail involved 50 artist and celebrity designed sculptures positioned at iconic landmarks, spaces and attractions across London for nine weeks earlier this year. All the Shaun sculptures will be auctioned on 8 October to raise money for the Wallace & Gromit’s Children Charity, a national charity supporting children in hospitals across the UK.
