MIPIM 2017 was a significant date in the calendar for TLT as it was the first time that the firm had joined a delegation at the real estate event to promote and celebrate Belfast.
Fast forward a year and we are not only attending once again but this time as lead legal sponsor of Belfast at MIPIM.
As part of the Belfast at MIPIM Steering Group, I have been part of the planning process since day one when Belfast City Council decided it was time to take their message onto the international stage at MIPIM 2016. I am looking forward to seeing our efforts presented again at Cannes this year.
Last year was particularly memorable for me as MIPIM 2017 was the first time I had attended in my then new role in TLT as Partner, leading the firm's real estate offering in Northern Ireland. TLT opened its office in the city in May 2012 and the team, now sixty strong, continues to go from strength to strength and is on track to meet its ambitious growth plans over the coming years.
Few could argue that Belfast at MIPIM 2016 and 2017 favourably showcased what Northern Ireland's capital city has to offer. As we prepare for MIPIM 2018 it is not only important to reflect on our previous efforts in Cannes but also stop and take note of the vast changes to our city's landscape, many of which TLT have been involved in.
The opportunities for investors and developers in Belfast are considerable and coupled with the city's improving job markets, creative talent, affordability and superfast broadband connectivity, the Belfast at MIPIM delegation of 2018 will have a particularly important story to tell on the global MIPIM stage.
Other cities around the UK will boast of how they remain a global destination of choice, smart and tech-savvy but Belfast is very much still in a growth phase. The past's political unrest, the fog of Brexit and the ongoing lack of Executive and working Assembly have not dampened the city's dynamism, enthusiasm and spirit. Landmark developments, regeneration and refurbishment projects are at the forefront of the minds of the city's stakeholders and that is why Belfast is the ideal location for developers, investors and occupiers to make their mark.
