Data Protection & Privacy

Information can be one of the most valuable assets a business owns. Working with advisers who understand how information can best be protected and exploited is key to the operational success of a business.

TLT's Data Protection and Privacy team works with businesses particularly in the financial services, technology & media and retail sectors that process personal, and commercially sensitive data as a core part of their activities. Working to ensure that the security of data is safeguarded and that the data can be used to its maximum potential within the restrictions of the law are of paramount importance. Keeping out of the headlines for poor data security and taking proactive steps to manage risks when security breaches do occur is also key to maintaining a business' reputation and integrity.

The pace of technology is such that new opportunities arise for the capture and use of data. It also enables fraudsters to become increasingly sophisticated, both of which present challenges to good information management. The regulatory and reputational requirements for data security and the risk of fraudulent use of data is now greater than ever before. This combined with the increased focus on data protection enforcement by the ICO means that information law compliance is critical.

We have particular experience of data audits, cross border data transfers, records management, claims handling and ecommerce issues. Our team advises on all aspects of information law, including data protection, freedom of information and confidentiality and privacy.

The Financial Times rates TLT as one of the 50 most innovative law firms in Europe and has done so for four consecutive years.
