TLT trainees

Routes to a career with TLT

TLT takes talent further. That’s why we’re looking for somebody different.

It’s not just about your qualifications: are you commercially aware, and do you have the judgement, personal skills and business sense to get off to a quick start by joining a dynamic, entrepreneurial and forward-thinking legal team?

What we look for:

  • A minimum 300/24 UCAS points.
  • A 2:1 or above in any discipline. Above all, forward-thinking, entrepreneurial people who fit our creative and collaborative places of work.

Assessment day

If your written application demonstrates the talent we require, we'll invite you to take an online verbal reasoning test. If your written application is shortlisted, we'll invite you to take an online Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking test.

If you’re successful, we’ll invite you to attend an assessment day. This comprises:

  • A strength-based interview conducted by a partner and a member of the management team. This type of interview is designed to determine your natural strengths and weaknesses – what drives you and what you find challenging. This helps us to identify people with the best potential to succeed. You can read more about strength-based interviews here.
  • A presentation to two assessors. Here, we’re looking for evidence of commercial awareness and strong research skills.
  • A written test to explore your business and common sense and examine how you structure a written argument and present your findings.
  • A group exercise in which we want to see how well you can communicate, interact and solve problems as part of a team.

The day is definitely a two-way process – yes, it’s designed to challenge you and give us a good idea of your potential but it also offers plenty of opportunity to determine whether TLT is right for you.

Application for assessment days: 1 October - 31 July

Vacation schemes

We run schemes every Easter and summer for either second-year law students or final-year students, graduates and mature candidates, whether they’ve studied law or a different degree.

We’ll allocate you to a specific team for the week with real work, lots of interaction with senior TLT members and regular client contact.

You’ll have the opportunity to socialise with our current trainees who fully understand the challenges you'll face – make sure you pick their brains for advice. You will also meet with Partners over breakfast seminars, information meetings and a more relaxed dinner: this will cement your experience and help you fully grasp what it means to work for TLT.

The Vacation Scheme Assessment includes a strength-based interview conducted by a partner and a member of the management team. This type of interview is designed to determine your natural strengths and weaknesses – what drives you and what you find challenging. It helps us to identify people with the best potential to succeed.

You can read more about strength-based interviews here.

Half day assessment centres for our vacation schemes will run throughout February and March.
