    Group/Team Structure:
    The Commercial team forms part of TLT's Commercial Services Group. The team has over 50 commercial lawyers across our offices in Bristol & London advising on a variety of corporations across the firm's 5 industry sectors.

    The team is operated as a single unit across our Bristol & London offices, working to one plan for the development of the commercial practice.

    The Technology and Media team consists of 6 Partners and 10 Solicitors dealing with all aspects of commercial dispute resolution including;
    • contractual and warranty claims
    • intellectual property and IT disputes
    • manufacturing and engineering
    • financial services litigation
    • partnership and shareholder disputes
    • professional negligence
    • defamation
    • arbitration and mediation
    • construction disputes
    • cross border claims

    The successful candidate will be working closely with colleagues in Bristol and London, within both the Commercial Services and Intellectual Property teams, as well as with other members of the firm who also service commercial clients.

    The Role:
    Main Purpose of the Job

    Effective and timely technical legal support and analysis to the commercial team

    Drafting:
    • Administer, monitor, update and maintain the team's precedent system
    • Draft and source precedents as required (including explanatory notes)

    Training:
    • Plan develop and implement the commercial team training schedule to include know-how sessions and other training events as required
    • Identify areas of specific interest
    • Source the delivery of training sessions
    • Ensure training is strategic and in line with the team's plan

    Knowledge Management:
    • Monitor legal, commercial and industry developments
    • Implement a KM strategy that is consistent with that of the firm
    • Review and make recommendations in respect of updaters, journals and other resources available

    Business Development
    • Writing client on-line updates and briefings
    • Preparing client seminars and workshops
    • Developing our client training programme
    • Developing and maintaining knowledge-based client extranets and other online services
    • Writing for relevant legal and industry journals

    Sector Focus
    • Working closely with other PSLs at TLT to co-ordinate professional support to the Technology & Media Sector Group

    The ideal candidate:
    Knowledge, Skills and experience
    • Minimum three years' general commercial fee earning experience or experience as a commercial professional support lawyer
    • Some IT/IP experience
    • Bristol based with some travel to other UK offices
    • Flexible on days but envisage not less than 3 days per week

    Personal qualities:
    • Highly motivated
    • Able to contribute to a wide variety of tasks
    • Good self management skills including ability to drive projects forward
    • Able to hold confidence of fee earners on technical issues
    • Commercial awareness
    • Clear appreciation of the relationship of the PSL’s role to the profitability of the firm
    • Able to work with and take direction from key partners
    • Able to communicate easily with all levels of pqe
    • Good project management skills
