TLT advises Sharp's Brewery on £20 million deal with leading global brewer
03 February 2011
National law firm TLT has advised the shareholders of Sharp's Brewery Ltd on its sale to leading global brewer Molson Coors Brewing Company (UK) Ltd for £20 million.
Founded in 1994, Sharp's Brewery, based at Rock in Cornwall, has grown rapidly to become the largest brewer of cask conditioned beer in the South West. Sharp's cask ale brand Doom Bar is the number one selling cask ale brand in the South West and Wales and the fastest growing cask brand in Greater London.
Molson Coors employs 2,000 employees and has a 20% share of the UK beer market with brands including Carling, Coors Light, Grolsch, Worthington's, Caffrey's, Cobra and Corona.
Corporate partner Andrew Webber, who led the 10-strong TLT team on the sale, says "TLT has worked alongside Sharp's entrepreneurial owners Nick and Joe for a number of years, and it is great to see their plans to build Sharp's into a national brand come to fruition. This transaction represents a tremendous opportunity for Sharp's Brewery to grow its brands internationally, both in volume and distribution. This deal is a great showcase both for TLT's M&A capability and our leisure sector expertise."
Former owner of Sharp's Brewery Nick Baker says, "I'm delighted to have worked with the team at TLT to complete yet another deal. TLT's advice has proven to be incredibly valuable and I can't speak highly enough of the team."
TLT has a strong focus on the leisure sector and acts for some of the sector's leading pub companies, clubs, restaurants, hotel chains and visitor attractions including Punch Taverns, one of the UK's leading pub companies with over 6,700 pubs in its leased and managed estate; and Merlin Entertainments, the world's second largest entertainment group. TLT provides its leisure sector clients with specialist real estate, licensing, litigation, corporate, commercial, brand management, and employment advice.
